In order to build up the framework of this "sculpture" we took bins, big plastic boxes used Patagonia for the packaging and transportation of apples in Patagonia. The bins were displayed as modules to construct a rambling structure that allowed us to generate many interconected rooms of different sizes. Right at the center of the tour we set up a kind of backyard conceived to function as a dance-floor during the opening party. The piece was the result of the productive, social, working and affective exchange between local artists -living in cities like General Roca, Neuquén and Aluminé- and others coming specially from Buenos Aires to join the project during one week of collective work. We called this piece THE SCULPTURE OF THE PRESENT. We built up a complex structure with no predetermined shape, and without knowing the results of our actions. The starting point consisted of collecting personal belongings that could testify the daily consumption of General Roca. This meant to us a way of speaking about our time at this place. We decided not to pick up close and loved objects that would represent us individually but those that make as equals, those extremely banal things that come to our hands, circulate and soon disappear. Could all this objects help us to generate such a quantity enough to see ourselves? Could we find formal, surprising associations between them? We set up the game trying to keep our consumptions of a certain period. We tried to hold them, question them, make them stay. We gave them the chance of being part of something bigger. |

Para armar el esqueleto de esta "escultura" utilizamos bins, cajones plásticos que se usan para el empaque y transporte de manzanas. Los bins funcionaron como módulos para construir una estructura laberíntica que nos permitió generar diversos ambientes de distintas medidas interconectados entre sí. En el centro del recorrido se ubicó un patio concebido para funcionar durante la fiesta de inauguración como pista de baile. El trabajo fue el resultado de la interacción productiva, social, laboral, afectiva, entre artistas de la región (General Roca, Neuquén y Aluminé) y otros que viajaron desde Buenos Aires para integrarse durante una semana a la tarea colectiva. Llamamos a este trabajo LA ESCULTURA DEL PRESENTE pensando en construir una estructura compleja, sin forma definida de antemano y sin conocer su resultado final. El punto de partida fue la recolección en General Roca de los objetos personales que testimonian los consumos cotidianos: una manera de hablar de nuestro momento en este lugar. Pero no seleccionamos objetos queridos, entrañables, que nos representan individualmente, sino aquellas cosas que nos igualan, cosas en extremo banales que llegan a nuestras manos, circulan y prontodesaparecen. ¿Podríamos generar con todos estos objetos una cantidad tal que nos permitiera vernos? ¿Podríamos encontrar asociaciones que nos sorprendieran formalmente? Iniciamos el juego intentando que dentro de un tiempo acotado nuestros consumos no se evaporaran. Buscamos retenerlos, interpelarlos, obligarlos a quedarse. Les dimos la oportunidad de formar parte de algo mayor. |
